Halloween is almost among us, which means that, chances are, we have parties and other social gatherings to plan accordingly for.
If you’re anything like me, then you probably have a terrible habit of waiting until the last minute to follow through mixed with a pinch of indecision (and a near empty wallet to boot) when it comes to deciding who to channel on October 31st.
With that comes the crippling anxiety of compiling the necessary components & supplies for a clever costume on a budget in a time crunch. Before you have a panic attack, take a deep breath. Then, look no further because I’m here to help. I’ve compiled a list of 5 different pop culture inspired costumes that I think will be a hit at your next Halloween party.
1. Damien from Mean Girls
“She doesn’t even go here!” Mean Girls is such a zeitgeist in today’s pop culture bubble, so you’ll no doubt get complimented on this easy, yet iconic costume. To top it all off, this is such an easy costume! Have a sweatshirt and aviators? Boom. All you need is a sign, any sign, saying “She doesn’t even go here!” and your choice of pants and not only do you have a cheap costume, but there’s a high chance you have these pieces sitting in your closet without realizing it. But, in case you need items, here are some options for you:
2. VSCO Girl
Ah, yes. I hate this trend, too. But, isnt some of the fun of Halloween dressing up as something as a joke? (*flashback to my epic Ryan Lochte costume post-London Olympics*) There are SO many youtube videos of girls turning themselves into the infamous VSCO girl for a day as a joke, so why not do it for Halloween?
At the end of the day, if you have scrunchies, ripped jean shorts, trendy sandals of any sort, and a reusable water bottle, you can make this costume work for you.
3. Morticia Addams
Morticia’s already a Halloween ICON (as is Wednesday) and dressing up and channeling our innner Anjelica Huston can actually be super simple if you’re in a time crunch for a good costume. If you have an elegant looking black Maxi Dress, you can absolutely work with it to make it exude Morticia Addams energy. The real skill is in the makeup: A smokey eye and a bright red lip will really finish off the look
4. The *iconic* Kermit Drinking Tea Meme
The tea is piping this halloween. Is this meme still relevant? I guess that’s dependent on who you ask. I think it is *but that’s none of my business*.
Again, another easy as pie costume. Do you have green clothing? YES? Awesome. A clear coffee mug that you can drink tea (or whiskey, or any other mixed drink at your party)? GREAT. Just make a quick, big, sign that says “That’s none of my business” and you got yourself the easiest costume this Halloween.
5. Carol Danvers (aka Captain Marvel)
I couldn’t complete this list without a comic book character thrown into the fire. This is one you can easily split into a partners costume, one can be Carol Danvers, while the other can do the Captain Marvel part.
I hope this helps relieve any stress you may have. I know we all love the fall, especially all the excitement Halloween brings. Whether you choose to dress up or not, let’s all make the most of Halloween this year, shall we?
